|The IIT Delhi or the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is located in the Hauz Khas area of the city and is an institute of repute imparting specialized courses in Engineering. The IIT Delhi is a part of the other IIT institutes situated in the other major centers of the country like Mumbai, Chennai and Kanpur to name a few in the order.
To talk about th history of the IIT Delhi, one has to move back in time till the time it was established. On 21st August 1961 the IIT Delhi was established and inaugurated by professor Humayun Kabir who was the thenUnion Minister for Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs. During its initial years, it was known by the name College of Engineerng and Technology, Delhi. However, within a few years it was re christened as the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and the official building in the campus was opened by the then President of India, Zakir Hussain.
The lush green lawns of the IIT Delhi have been divided into segregated zones, each dedicated to a specific feature that comprise of the campus. Whileone is the Students Residential Zone, the second one is the Residential Zone for Staff and Faculty. While the third zone is the Academic zone where the lecture halls, libraries and other workshops are organized, the fourth zone is dedicated to the Student Activity Center and stadium and other fields.

The IIT Delhi has a special Senate to decide on the academic policies of the institute besides selecting the curriculum and taking care of the exam results. To keep the spirit within the campus and to maintain the high quality of education offered here, the Senate at the IIT Delhi reviews and assesses the standards of teaching from time to time. The various other boards that have been constituted to take care of the various departments like undergraduate programs and graduate programs etc also contribute towards the smooth running of the institute.
