|One of the topmost engineering institutes is IIT Chennai formerly known as the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. A pioneer in offering technological and engineering courses to its students, the IIT Chennai was set up in the year 1959. The year 2008- 2009 marks the golden jubilee year for the institute and therefore there will be numerous activities held throughout the year to keep up the spirits. A great deal of technical, financial and expert guidance on a variety of aspects was particularly provided by the government of West Germany. In fact it was one of the largest educational projects for West Germany that it has been associated with, outside Germany. The IIT Chennai campus has been built across 620 acres of land and at any given time is home to about 4000 students studying here.
