Batchelor Institute came to existence in 1960s on the border of Darwin as a small College; soon it turned into a government boarding school for Aboriginal students. The institute provided short programs for Aboriginal teacher aides and assistants in community schools. In 1974 these programs were started to conduct in Batchelor, and in 1982 the institution was named Batchelor College.
This institute offers a wide range of courses designed to help students in gaining the skills and qualifications needed to find work.
